MLB All-Star week of giving

Last week’s All-Star game festivities had a very “giving” feeling to it. A review of the array of events and partnerships highlighted by the League and its partners was quite impressive. Check out the listing at http://www.mlb.com/stl/fan_forum/asg/community_schedule.jsp. The initial text is highlighted here.

“Major League Baseball, in partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals, will dedicate the 2009 All-Star Summer to raising money/awareness for Baseball’s charitable initiatives while celebrating the importance of community service. The charity and community service initiatives will be the most extensive in Major League Baseball All-Star history and will celebrate the history and traditions of Major League Baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals. Major League Baseball will focus its efforts on benefiting healthcare organizations, supporting education programs, increasing opportunities for young people to play baseball, acting in an environmentally-conscious manner and celebrating the community service accomplishments of everyday American citizens.”

A rundown of the $7 million donated by the League and the Cardinals can be found at Maury Brown’s Biz of Baseball website – http://bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3426:mlb-collects-over-7-million-in-donations-during-all-star-week&catid=30:mlb-news&Itemid=42
