Athletes Go Green

Not the Boston Celtics, Michigan State Spartans, nor the New York Jets (though all 3 are invited to participate!)

We are talking about Earth Day and all athletes and fans having multiple ways to contribute to the health of our world.

For the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, which takes place on April 22, our friends at Athletes for Hope are mobilizing teams, athletes, leagues, and sports fans to “Go Green” with a new campaign.

“Athletes Go Green” is an environmental initiative that unites players, fans and teams in an effort to paint the sports world green in the days leading up to Earth Day.   Through this unique campaign, sports fans are interacting with some of their favorite athletes around environmental causes. Athletes and fans have the opportunity to join together to make an impact by committing to a “Green Play”, or simple actions that they can do for a week to improve the environment. Participants are encouraged to share their stories by posting videos, photos, and engaging in discussions through the Campaign’s Facebook Cause Page.”

Athletes for Hope is an organization that looks to “educate, connect, collaborate with, and recognize” not just athletes but all of us. We have highlighted its efforts before and are happy to again feature its influential work, especially since the goal here is not to celebrate just one day, but to use this anniversary event to “educate, connect, collaborate with, and recognize” an energetic group – everyone! – for the long-term.  By joining the campaign this week, we can take those early steps necessary to make that long-term difference.
