Soccer Aid – Remember, no hands…

And no fists!

Next weekend at ManU’s Old Trafford stadium there will be a soccer/football game involving current and past star players, other great athletes, and a few celebrities thrown in, raising money for UNICEF’s tremendous work on behalf of children around the world.

Soccer Aid is a charity event started by English pop star Robbie Williams and involves an “England vs. The Rest of the World” format. Some of the players and celebrities include Zinedine Zidane, Ryan Giggs, Mike Myers and Woody Harrelson, and boxers Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe. (Guys, remember no punches!!)

Throughout the match coverage on June 6, television viewers will see short films by UNICEF Ambassadors detailing how the money raised will benefit children around the world.

According to the website, “Previous Soccer Aid events in 2006 and 2008 have helped to improve the lives of more than one million children, and we hope to raise lots more money in 2010!” The money raised this year will help children in Guinea, Madagascar  and Kenya.

This should be an awesome event so if you are in the area definitely head out for a night of great soccer in support of a great cause.
