Introduction
Years ago, I taught a Business Management class and would include some content from CNBC. They had a series of 1-hour shows that looked at some of the best companies in the market. Two of the companies were Coca-Cola and Levi’s, legendary institutions in the business world, who also had cultural cache. One item that was featured in both of the profiles was the history of each company. In fact, both companies had an archivist, someone on staff who helped manage items that spoke to each company’s amazing story.
I always thought that sports teams, leagues, and events would benefit from such a commitment to preserving the most important moments from their past. Much of what connects us to sports are the memories of our experiences, whether in person or even watching at home or in a sports bar. Probably all of us have some mementos from great, even not-so-great, sports events.
I was fortunate to come across an article in SportsBusiness Journal which introduces us to a leader in the “nostalgia” space. In “Heritage Werks turning authentic assets into preserved history to fuel future storytelling,” we learn about the incredible business of memories, with sports entities one of the most interesting market segments around.
The article is a compelling reminder that while we are so focused on the present, and definitely the future, our history provides context for basically everything we experience in sports. That is terrific and certainly example of sports doing good.

Our Website
More About Us
Our goal is to have Sports Doing Good be a portal housing original content and excerpts from and links to the increasing number of articles, websites, video, and other media that showcase the good in sports and society. We aim to celebrate those concepts, activities, events, and individuals by highlighting them for a wider audience. Much of the news today, whether sports- related or not, is incredibly negative and increasingly polarizing, biased, and quite annoying. We are trying to refocus some of the discussion on the good, with a focus on sports.
Our mission is to have Sport Doing Good be a consistent, and significant, contributor to the areas of sports, social responsibility, and development. We look forward to partnering with other stakeholders in producing content, in creating and/or sponsoring athletic and service events, knowledge sharing, and conferences/seminars, and even having a commercial arm that could be the source of innovative social businesses.
We invite you to send in news, press releases, and guest pieces for possible publication, and email us with suggestions about the content and format of the newsletter and Sports Doing Good website.
