Being the bridge – Basketball Diplomacy

We don’t have to solve world problems all by ourselves. However, we can make contributions, no matter how small, to the collective effort that can help overcome those problems.

I heard a real powerful statement last week that I thought succinctly captured this thought: Don’t focus on what needs to be done; focus on what you can do.

I am especially proud to highlight the efforts of fellow Georgetown alums and their work with Basketball Diplomacy.  Special congratulations to Sead Dizdarevic, who launched this program. You can read about the second year of the program at http://guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/081909aaa.html and watch a video below.

The 2009 Regional Youth Basketball Camp took place in Montenegro from August 3 to 6. Eight coaches and former basketball players from the Georgetown University in Washington, DC worked with 40 high-school students from Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia to improve the basketball skills and stress the importance of education. This event was the result of cooperation between the Embassy and Georgetown University.
