Rhodes Scholars – Part II – Tyler Spencer

One of the recipients of a 2009 Rhodes Scholarship is Tyler Spencer. We featured Tyler and his Grassroots Hoyas effort in a story on Aug. 21, 2009.  Grassroots Hoyas is part of Tyler’s Grassroots Project initiative, which trains college athletes to be HIV/AIDS educators for youths. The Hoyas project is focused on individuals in the Washington, DC area.

Tyler is a lifelong sports enthusiast. His enthusiasm has manifested itself as a fan, athlete, coach, and now, as a leading sports and development executive. While we have great admiration for each of the other winners, we have a special place in our hearts for someone who has employed the power of sport so early and effectively in their lives to help others and who has a long-term commitment to this area. (And I of course love the Georgetown connection)

We wish Tyler all the best at Oxford and look forward to hearing about his experiences there and when he gets back.

Below is the video from CBS News about the Grassroots Hoyas project.
