The situation in Haiti – the world of sports helping

The stories coming in of those with a connection to the world of sports making early contributions to relief efforts are not surprising, but that does not mean they should not be acknowledged.

From ESPN“Dominican-born baseball player Miguel Tejada is sending supplies and the New York Yankees are donating $500,000 to rescue and relief efforts.”

From SI.com – “The Colts announced in a news release Wednesday that they will donate donating $10,000 to the American Red Cross relief effort and they’re asking fans to pitch in, too, by text messaging “HAITI” to 90999. A $10 donation will go to the Red Cross and the charge will appear on the user’s cell phone bill.”

From SI.com – “Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong foundation pledged $250,000 to Partners in Health and Doctors Without Borders and the cyclist posted a video message on his Web site from Australia, where he is preparing for the Tour of Australia.”
