Welcome to March. Now go grab some fruit!

Happy first day of March!

Now that we have made it through February, are starting to dig out of the snow that covered most of the East coast for the month,  as the Olympic torch begins to fade, we set our sights on the coming of spring. We start optimistically awaiting the blossoming of flowers and the warm weather we hope is on the horizon.

There seems no better time to welcome March, a month also known as National Nutrition Month!

While not exactly a sport doing good, National Nutrition Month is an important effort sponsored by the American Dietetic Association (ADA). The theme of this year’s month long campaign is “Nutrition From the Ground Up”. The ADA is encouraging people to take this opportunity to “spring into” healthy eating habits, while planning ways to get in some physical activity with better weather on the way.

We have more than a few times highlighted campaigns to assist various groups, often kids and young people, that address not only physical activity and participation in sports, but healthy living overall. That certainly includes proper eating habits. For example, two of the core pillars of First Lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to eradicate obesity deal with knowledge about and access to healthier food options.

We applaud these efforts to draw attention to this key component of a healthy lifestyle.
