Introduction
As expected, I went through some pretty serious Olympics withdrawal the past two weeks. I do include some stories this week that touch upon the amazing Paris Games which I hope will spark some great memories for you, as they did for me. I will admit that since the Olympics I have watched daily Steph Curry’s 4-three pointers in the gold medal men’s basketball game, as well as Alex Sedrick’s full-field sprint in the bronze medal women’s rugby sevens match. Yes, both are hyperlinked here!
I really believe these might have been the greatest Olympics ever, or at least, the Olympics we needed the most. Coming off the pandemic during which we had a fan-less Olympics (I do hope Tokyo gets another shot at hosting), I kind of had to remind myself why I love the Olympics so much and why their rebirth in 1896 is one of the best things humans have ever done. What other time do we get the “parade of nations” (this time on boats!)? What about the celebrations of not just gold medal winners, but the silver and definitely the bronze medal winners? Each athlete at the Games had their own goals and for some, representing the country with their very best effort was it, and that was enough for me.
So, we have Los Angeles in 2028. I loved the transition from Paris to LA – thank you Tom Cruise? – and the mini-concerts with some of SoCals greatest performers. I hope that we continue to support athletes at every level, so that future generations will also have a chance to shine on the global stage. So, attend youth sports events, watch volleyball and water polo at the college level, and pay attention to some of the new efforts to showcase track & field’s best (e.g. Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track league; Alexis Ohanian’s 776 Invitational). Let’s keep up the energy all the way to LA.

Our Website
More About Us
Our goal is to have Sports Doing Good be a portal housing original content and excerpts from and links to the increasing number of articles, websites, video, and other media that showcase the good in sports and society. We aim to celebrate those concepts, activities, events, and individuals by highlighting them for a wider audience. Much of the news today, whether sports- related or not, is incredibly negative and increasingly polarizing, biased, and quite annoying. We are trying to refocus some of the discussion on the good, with a focus on sports.
Our mission is to have Sport Doing Good be a consistent, and significant, contributor to the areas of sports, social responsibility, and development. We look forward to partnering with other stakeholders in producing content, in creating and/or sponsoring athletic and service events, knowledge sharing, and conferences/seminars, and even having a commercial arm that could be the source of innovative social businesses.
We invite you to send in news, press releases, and guest pieces for possible publication, and email us with suggestions about the content and format of the newsletter and Sports Doing Good website.
