Introduction
One of the great things about sports excellence is that it is not restricted to time, place, or person. We have seen every type of person, from big cities to small towns, excel at every sport. This week, the state of Nebraska takes center stage in the Sports Doing Good newsletter.

I am pretty sure these two athletes have not crossed paths but do share success at the highest level. One as a Super Bowl champion (Cam Jurgens) and the other as an undisputed boxing champion, 3 times over (Terence Crawford).

Terence Crawford came out of his fight with superstar Canelo Alvarez with fans, and boxing insiders alike, touting his greatness. His fight, in front of 70,000 in-person fans, and millions more watching on Netflix, solidified his place as one of the best ever. Jurgens’ situation also entailed thousands of in-person fans and millions of viewers, but as the literal center of his team, his accolades were not as pronounced, but certainly worthy of acclaim.

There is something special, and inspirational, about have star athletes from somewhat smaller places, e.g., Omaha and Pickrell, Nebraska standing at the top of what they do. It tells us that no matter where you are from, greatness can happen. It is up to us, however, to make such chances accessible to as many people, especially kids, as possible. That would truly be sports doing good.

Our Website

More About Us
Our goal is to have Sports Doing Good be a portal housing original content and excerpts from and links to the increasing number of articles, websites, video, and other media that showcase the good in sports and society. We aim to celebrate those concepts, activities, events, and individuals by highlighting them for a wider audience. Much of the news today, whether sports- related or not, is incredibly negative and increasingly polarizing, biased, and quite annoying. We are trying to refocus some of the discussion on the good, with a focus on sports.

Our mission is to have Sport Doing Good be a consistent, and significant, contributor to the areas of sports, social responsibility, and development. We look forward to partnering with other stakeholders in producing content, in creating and/or sponsoring athletic and service events, knowledge sharing, and conferences/seminars, and even having a commercial arm that could be the source of innovative social businesses.

We invite you to send in news, press releases, and guest pieces for possible publication, and email us with suggestions about the content and format of the newsletter and Sports Doing Good website.
