Local and personal – Glazer Foundation

The Glazer Family, when it comes to sports, is truly on both ends of the spectrum right now. Their Premier League ManU soccer team again is challenging for major titles and holds a spot in the hearts of millions of fans around the world. The NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a young team that will not see the playoffs this year and I doubt anyone in Malaysia is wearing a Josh Freeman jersey right now, unlike those with Wayne Rooney jerseys.

So with these national and international business interests at hand, the Glazers have taken a decidedly local and personal approach when it comes to its charitable and CSR efforts. According to the website,

“The Glazer Family Foundation is dedicated to assisting charitable and educational causes in the West Central Florida region. The foundation aids established not-for-profit organizations that work with youth and families to help identify and create programs that support positive social and economic development within our communities. Since being founded in 1999, the Glazer Family Foundation has donated millions in grants, tickets and merchandise to the Tampa Bay area.”

No one organization will fix the bevy of problems and challenges that individuals and societies face. It is up for each non-profit, company, and individual to figure out where there resources can do the most good and what they feel most passionate about. The Glazer Foundation has looked to their local community, Tampa Bay, and to personal circumstances, e.g. Malcolm Glazer’s own experience with vision screening prompted the creation of the Foundation’s Vision Program.
