Shift Series – Social Entrepreneurship conference

We were recently contacted by Compass Partners, a non-profit that aims to develop the next generation of social entrepreneurs. Great thing, they are in that generation! (And it warms my heart that these guys are fellow Georgetown grads)

Compass Partners will be holding its first annual conference in about 3 weeks in Washington, DC. We encourage you to attend to learn from great panelists and attendees who share the same vision and passion as you do.

Copied below is the announcement from founders Neil Shah and Arthur Woods about the conference.

Compass Partners (www.compasspartners.org) is excited to introduce its first annual, national conference: Shift Series, a multidisciplinary discussion about preparing today’s world to address tomorrow’s social problems.

Save the Date!

The Shift Series conference will take place in Washington, D.C. on April 1 and 2, so mark your calendar, because you won’t want to miss this! Early registration is now open to the public, and ticket prices are $250. Be sure to register by March 16!

Fostering Cross-Sector Change-Making

We are looking for 300 exceptional individuals from the community at large, especially educators, entrepreneurs, non-profit leaders and policy-makers, to participate in an in-depth dialogue and share new approaches to social issues. Attendees will rub elbows with the likes of Jim Clifton, CEO of Gallup, Morgan O’Brien, Founder of Nextel Communications, and Joe Sibilia of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Newswire. For more information about these and other Shift Series speakers, visit shiftseries.com/speakers.

At Shift Series, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with a brilliant and ambitious individuals, from college students with fresh outlooks on social issues to experienced and prominent professionals with years of insight. Thus, we hope Shift Series will result in a valuable and inspiring cross-disciplinary discussion about the search for more effective and meaningful solutions to the world’s problems.

The Shift Series conference is therefore structured around the concept of interdisciplinary exchange. Shift Series attendees will join a Home Team consisting of a diverse group of students, educators, government officials and entrepreneurs. A member of the Shift Series team will lead each Home Team, and team members will interact regularly with one another at workshops throughout the two-day event.

Shift Series will also present a unique, three-tiered approach to analyzing and discussing social issues. Because change begins most fundamentally with the individual, Shift Series will first explore how individuals can shift their mindset and behavior to produce positive social impact. We will then focus on change-making at the institutional level and, finally, at the societal level.

The conference will be an interdisciplinary discussion divided into three sections, addressing individual, institutional, and societal change-making.

At each of the aforementioned levels (individual, institutional and societal), Shift Series will feature both a keynote speaker and a related workshop. In the workshops, Home Teams will collaborate to discuss hypothetical solutions to real-world problems. Additionally, attendees will be invited to a number of other lectures, showcasing the work of outstanding academics, business and nonprofit leaders and policy makers.

At the culmination of each day’s activities, all attendees are welcome to attend a reception, where they will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with program members and speakers. In addition, the second day of Shift Series will provide a special “Classrooms Without Quizzes” program, consisting of fun, leisurely activities relevant to the program and hosted on the Georgetown University campus.

We here at Compass Partners are thrilled to be hosting Shift Series, and we look forward to discussing new approaches to social issues with you!
