www.loveequals.net Introduction: One of my main goals for Sports Doing Good is the amplification of stories that capture the best of us, whether we are talking about individuals, organizations, companies, etc. Another goal is to cite others who are doing similar work, whether we are talking about sports or overall society. One entity I have cited multiple times in the newsletter is CNN, both articles and videos. One of its signature properties is one of my absolute “must-see” programs, and that is CNN Heroes. The next version will be televised on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 8pm EST. https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/01/world/cnn-heroes-top-10-2023/index.html While not sports-specific, there are usually 1 or 2 stories that have a connection to that world. One of those stories we feature this week, “More than just a workout: CNN Hero helps athletes with intellectual disabilities get fit and build connections.” (get ready, you will probably cry when you watch the video.) The story of Bloom Fitness is one of sport for good, but also entrepreneurship and a broadening perspective; specifically, that those with intellectual disabilities benefit from exercise, sports, being part of a team, and group support just like everyone else. The other item I want to highlight is Nice News, https://nicenews.com/, a multi-platform news outlet that highlights what you would consider “nice news.” I subscribe to their daily newsletter and try to make sure to give at least a couple of minutes to it, oftentimes more. The stories you will see at Nice News are similar in approach to Sports Doing Good, in that the breadth of topics featured makes for an inclusive environment. One of the topics sometimes featured is the world of sports. This week Nice News did feature a story in its newsletter that we cited from another source, Good Morning America, “After getting cut from high school team, 20-year-old now plays college basketball,” about the amazing Baileigh Sinaman-Daniel. If you know of any other sources of good or nice news, I’d love to hear about it and then share it with several thousand like-minded individuals. Thanks. Please continue to send along your stories. You’re both our audience and best source of stories. Our Twitter handle is @sportsdoinggood, and you can find us at www.facebook.com/sportsdoinggood and on Instagram. Finally, if you think others would like to receive the newsletter, please feel free to forward it on or have them contact us directly at sab@sportsdoinggood.com. (If you do not want to receive the newsletter anymore you can use the Unsubscribe button at the end of the email) So enjoy. And have a good week. |
