Introduction: As we cross over to a new year, we all commit to doing something better, whether we go “all in” or just think, “okay, I am going to try to eat better,” while holding a delicious donut. The first newsletter of 2024 has a lot in common with the 430 other issues of Sports Doing Good. There are numerous stories that highlight good people doing good things, living a good life, and ultimately, working to be better people and helping others to reach their potential. The item I am featuring, however, is not one of the main 10 stories of from the 10+ section, though they are all worth your time. Instead, it is from the video/podcast section and involves someone who I don’t know but I have seen his name and company in the sports business news for years. It is AJ Maestas from sports business consulting firm Navigate. And the video I share is AJ giving a TED talk (I love TED talks.) I was excited to hear from someone talking, in about 15 minutes, about the power of sport, the connections we share as fans, and how sports can be a unifier in a world where there is too much division. Those ideas have always had a home at Sports Doing Good. I am happy I came across this heartfelt talk and can share it with you this week. I HIGHLY recommend it. Finally, as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I also share his monumental quote: “The time is always right to do what is right.” Together, let’s make 2024 that time. Please continue to send along your stories. You’re both our audience and best source of stories. Our Twitter handle is @sportsdoinggood, and you can find us at www.facebook.com/sportsdoinggood and on Instagram. Finally, if you think others would like to receive the newsletter, please feel free to forward it on or have them contact us directly at sab@sportsdoinggood.com. (If you do not want to receive the newsletter anymore you can use the Unsubscribe button at the end of the email) So enjoy. And have a good week. |
